Communication practice for physicians

Practice patient conversations with room to learn.

Commora helps internationally trained physicians practice listening, explanation, empathy, and shared planning through realistic voice-based patient simulations.

Formative communication training. Not a clinical examination.

One conversation at a time.

The workflow stays focused on preparation, spoken practice, and reflection. It does not turn communication training into a test of clinical facts.

  1. Choose a scenario

Review the fictional patient, setting, learner brief, and communication objectives.

  2. Speak with the patient

Begin a natural voice conversation. The simulated patient waits for you to speak first.

  3. Review the conversation

Read the completed transcript after the session, or follow it live in Guided Practice.

  4. Receive structured feedback

Reflect on OS-12-aligned communication items and exact evidence from your own words.

Choose the support you need today.

Both modes use the same patient conversation and generate the same completed transcript for feedback. Guided Practice remains the default.

Default mode

Guided Practice

Keep the patient visual and live transcript in view while you speak. This provides additional language and comprehension support.

Transcript visible during and after the conversation

Transcript hidden while live

Listening Practice

Rely on listening and spoken communication during the conversation. The completed transcript appears after you end the session.

Meet the person before the conversation.

Each scenario begins with a learner-facing brief and a small set of communication objectives. Private patient facts and behaviour instructions remain on the server.

Primary care visit

Maya has come to discuss a recurring health concern. She feels worried after reading information online and wants to feel heard. Focus on how you communicate, not on reaching a diagnosis.

Communication objectives

  • Open the conversation and establish rapport
  • Use open-ended questions and active listening
  • Acknowledge the patient’s concerns with empathy
  • Summarize the conversation and close clearly

A structured framework with clear limits.

Commora provides OS-12-aligned communication feedback adapted from a Calgary-Cambridge-based framework. It reviews opening, information gathering, relationship building, structure, explanation and planning, and closing.

The published tool was validated for trained human raters. Commora’s automated adaptation has not been independently validated and requires clinical calibration. It is intended only for formative practice.
